Your smile is one of the very first things that people notice about you. Imperfections in your teeth (discoloration, misalignment, damage, missing teeth, etc.) can greatly impact the beauty of your smile, and send the wrong impression. At Newport Dental Group, we can restore the quality of your smile with cosmetic dentistry services.
Below are some of the cosmetic services that our practice offers.
Discoloration can occur as a result of several different factors: the foods and beverages you consume, lifestyle habits such as smoking, certain medications, and other lifestyle factors. While over-the-counter products can sometimes help with minor surface stains, they don’t often provide the desired results. At Newport Dental Group, we can provide professional whitening treatments that far exceed the over-the-counter options. In-office whitening, or chairside whitening, can be completed in about an hour. We apply a bleaching agent to your teeth and then them to a special light. The light enhances the effects of the active ingredient (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide), and your teeth are several shades whiter immediately. If you prefer to whiten on your own time, we also provide take-home trays. We create custom-fit trays from impressions of your mouth and provide you with the bleaching agent. You wear the trays for 4 to 8 hours a day, for a set number of days. It often takes about a week for your teeth to appear noticeably whiter.
Fillings are used to restore areas of your tooth affected by decay. At Newport Dental Group we use composite (tooth-colored) materials to “fill in” the surface of the tooth after all decay has been removed.
Bonding is a procedure where we apply a tooth-colored composite material to a tooth, shape it, allow it to harden, and polish it. It can be used in certain situations where a tooth has been damaged or become stained.
Minor imperfections in your teeth can greatly affect the appearance of your smile. Porcelain veneers are thin “shells” that cover the front portion of your visible teeth. They are relatively strong and able to withstand normal biting and chewing forces. Porcelain perfectly blends in with the rest of your smile, mimicking the properties of your natural enamel, including color and light reflecting properties.
When damage to your teeth is severe, not only does it affect your appearance, but it can also affect your oral health. One potential option for fixing damaged teeth and preventing further damage to your health includes using dental crowns. Dental crowns are “caps” that cover the entire visible portion of the affected tooth. They provide a damaged tooth with strength and protect it from further damage and infections. Crowns can be made from several different materials, but ceramic provides the best aesthetic results. A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is one of the traditional dental methods for replacing missing teeth.
Along with affecting your appearance, misaligned teeth can lead to uneven tooth wear, jaw pain, and an increased risk of developing cavities and gum disease. Traditionally, metal braces have been used to fix crooked teeth. Metal braces are effective and are still in use today, but they can be a serious source of self-consciousness. We provide Invisalign® as an alternative. Invisalign® consists of a series of clear plastic aligners, which are made from molds of your mouth. Each set of aligners is meant to be worn for two weeks at a time. The aligners, which are removable (making eating and dental care easier), gradually guide your teeth into proper alignment. They are invisible against your teeth, so no one will be able to tell they are there.
